Project: Getty Museum Bill Viola, The Passions
Title: Principal Web Project Manager, Tech Team Manager
Role: Tech lead, Video integration lead and project oversight team. The Getty Museum hosted an exhibition and commissioned new works from video artist, Bill Viola. The videos used ultra high-speed cameras to produce ultra slow motion video art. Being before wide roll-out of Broadband in home, getting these videos in quality form on the web was very difficult. Web video compression looks at successive frame and if the frames don’t change much, the video does not refresh. So our first tests at compressing the videos produced 5-8 minutes of a single still frame. Fortunately with the help of a video engineer, we were able to suitably encode the videos for web streaming.
